We are excited you are interested in riding at the Wish Upon a Horse Therapeutic Riding Center at Lawton Stables. On the right are links to further information and required forms for interested riders.

Set in a beautiful, safe environment, the WUAH program strives to be therapeutically beneficial to individuals with a variety of special needs by improving muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination and motor development.  Our lessons aim to promote the physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioral well-being of each individual who participates. Our instructors work toward fostering riders’ independence, enhancing individual strengths and achieving personal goals.

Wish Upon a Horse serves a wide variety of cognitive and physical special needs.  Currently, we serve riders autism, developmental delay, ADD and ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, paraplegia, sight and hearing deficit, and traumatic brain injury.

Application Process

In order to participate in our program, we require that each rider and/or his or her parent or guardian completes an application.   Please download the forms from the links under the “Participant Forms” section located on the right hand column of this page.  Read through the New Rider Information Package and then complete all the participant forms and return them to the office, either by post or in person.  You may also scan them and email them to us at  Please note that the Physicians Form and Statement must be completed and signed by the rider’s physician.

Once we receive your application packet we will contact you to meet our trainer and discuss your goals.  Before the first lesson, we will schedule a rider an assessment will then be set up to determine the rider’s individual needs and goals, such as class type, suitability, exercise tolerance, mounting technique, horse and adaptive equipment requirements, volunteer assistance required, and availability.

Our PATH certified instructors will then plan a lesson program for each rider taking into consideration his or her designated goals and objectives and needs in a therapeutically beneficial setting.  The rider’s instructor records progress notes after each lesson in order to measure outcomes and the rider’s progress in order to work toward the goals agreed upon at the beginning of each session.

Wish Upon a Horse provides lessons at no charge to the rider.  Each of our riders is subsidized through private donations, fundraising, and grants.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Wish Upon a Horse family.  If you have any questions or would like to make a donation or assist with fundraising activities, please contact us at 843.671.2586 or email
